Yugoslavia Shuts Down 13 Embassies

The Yugoslav federal government decided Thursday to shut down 13 of its embassies to save money.

Those embassies are Caracas, Santiago, Beirut, Dar es Salaam, Lusaka, Nairobi, Accra, Conakry, Tashkent, Pyongyang, Yangon, Hanoi and Harare, according to the press release published by the Yugoslav Information Ministry on Thursday.

The government's decision has nothing to do with its diplomatic relations with those countries, but was made solely for economic reasons, the ministry said. Embassies in neighboring countries will take care of the closed-down posts.
