CPC Solicits Opinions for Decision on Building of Party Style
The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China recently held a meeting at the Zhongnanhai Compound to solicit non-Communist parties' and non- party members' opinions on the draft of the "CPC Central Committee 's Decision on Strengthening and Improving the Building of the Party Style."

President Jiang Zemin told the participants that the Sixth Plenum of the 15th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was going to discuss the building of the Party style. He also briefed them on the preparations for the drafting of the communique, which was expected to be passed at the plenum.

Jiang emphasized that the plenum would thoroughly analyze the building of the Party style, which is a necessity not only because of the new situation and task of the Party but also because of the present condition and needs of the Party.

He asked the participants to fully recognize the importance of improving the Party style from the international, domestic, historical and present points of views and the perspectives from inside and outside the Party.

He said that in order to meet the great changes that have taken place in the domestic and international environments, the Party should unite and lead the Chinese people of all nationalities to fulfill its goals and realize the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

This means the Party must improve its leadership and rule and increase its ability to fight against corruption and resist temptation, which must be done through adhering to the thought of "Three Represent's," Jiang added.

He said that those present at the meeting are old friends of the CPC who have worked with the Party for many years, and have always cared for the Party building. He welcomed them to extend their opinions on the matter.

Those who spoke at the meeting included He Luli, chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang; Ding Shisun, chairman of the China Democratic League; Cheng Siwei, chairman of the China Democratic National Construction Association; Xu Jialu, chairman of the Central Committee of the China Association for the Promotion of Democracy; Li Meng, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers' Democratic Party; Luo Haocai, chairman of the Central Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party; Wu Jieping, chairman of the Central Committee of the Jiu San Society; Zhang Kehui, chairman of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League; Jing Shuping, chairman of the All-China Federation for Industry and Commerce; and non-party members Cheng Siyuan and Wang Tao.

They said that the priority of the CPC's first meeting in the new century should be given to strengthening the make-up of the Party, and the communique to be passed at the plenum can fully demonstrate the Party's devotion to improvement and its strong determination to upgrade its style based on the "Three Represent's " thought.

The speakers agreed that the draft of the communique gives an in-depth analysis of the development and changes in the international and domestic situations, and clarifies the importance of improving the Party style.

They said that the draft summarizes the CPC's experience since its founding 80 years ago, especially during its 50-year rule.

They also raised specific suggestions for amendments to the draft.

Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Vice President Hu Jintao attended the meeting.
