Maritime Rescue Drill Successful
September 26 saw "No.1 Maritime Rescue", a combined drill on a large scale of military and local organizations, being successfully conducted at the Yellow Sea. This marks a great step forward that China has ever achieved in the combined maritime rescue.

This maritime rescue drill, sponsored by Chinese PLA navy and Ministry of Communications and held by North-Sea Fleet of Chinese Navy and Shandong Bureau of Maritime Affairs, is staged under a supposed shipwreck, "a freighter damaged after a collision--on fire--oil leakage--some sailors falling into the sear--others stranded". When receiving the SOS signal, the North-Sea Fleet of Chinese Navy and Shandong Bureau of Maritime Affairs immediately started up the combined rescue commanding system, teamed up eight groups of army, navy and air forces for the rescue. The activity lasted two hours with altogether 11 items performed in the drill.
