Nine HK Tourists Still Missing in Sichuan Accident

Nine Hong Kong tourists are still missing following the collision of a tourist bus with a car on Sunday afternoon in Maoxian County, in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The accident, in which three people were killed, six were injured and nine went missing, was caused by the speeding driver of a car, who has been detained by local police, provincial government sources said Wednesday.

Three Hong Kong tourists who were slightly injured have been sent back home; another Hong Kong tourist, who was seriously injured, is scheduled to return home Thursday.

The tourist bus, which plunged into the Minjiang River, has not been found yet, despite continuous searches by local people and rescue teams.

The accident occurred at 13:20 p.m. Sunday, while the bus was taking 16 tourists from Hong Kong to Jiuzhaigou, a famous tourism destination in the province.

The local government has been conducting around-the-clock rescue work over the past few days and all the injured have received timely medical treatment.
