Chinese Vice-Premier Meets APLN Guests

Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen met Thursday with Etsuya Washio, chairman of the Steering Committee of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU), and his delegation.

Etsuya Washio gave Qian a proposal of the Asia and Pacific Labor Network (APLN) under ICFTU, which, according to common practice, will be submitted to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting scheduled in Shanghai in October.

Qian said the APLN has made positive efforts in promoting the participation of trade unions in the APEC work, and has raised many useful suggestions concerning workers' rights and the formation of social security networks.

He said APEC has achieved progress in boosting economic growth, strengthening capability building, and establishing social security networks, which reflected principles of the APLN proposal.

The Chinese government attached great importance to the APLN's proposal and will convey it to leaders of APEC economies, Qian said.

The delegation is paying a working visit to China as guests of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions.
