Festival Greetings Extended to Taiwan Compatriots

The coming of a traditional Chinese festival has intensified the Chinese government's concern for the Taiwan compatriots, who have just suffered severe typhoon damage.

Zhang Mingqing, the spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, expressed his condolences at a press conference Wednesday for the Taiwan victims of typhoon Nari.

As the Moon Festival, highlighting family reunions, is only five days off, Zhang said, he would like to extend greetings on behalf of the Taiwan Affairs Office of both the State Council and the CPC Central Committee to the Taiwan compatriots, and wished them a quick recovery and a happy and healthy holiday.

The Red Cross Society of China, Zhang said, has sent a telegram to its Taiwan counterpart, asking what relief materials and medicines are needed by the island province.

A reply from the Taiwan Red Cross Society said that the Taiwan people appreciate the care and support from the mainland.
