APEC Technical Fair Concludes

APEC Technomart IV came to a successful conclusion in Suzhou Tuesday morning with fruitful results in science and technology co-operation and agreement, sources from the organizing committee said, according to China Daily.

This year's fair is the largest in scale in the history of the APEC Technomart.

The five-day fair received great attention from all 21 APEC member economies which sent about 1,000 enterprises, companies and research institutions, including such multinationals as Exxon, Sony, Nokia, the Canadian National Research Institute and the Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute.

More than 513 agreements were signed at the fair with a total contractual value of over US$1.07 billion.

China's 10 APEC Science and Technology Parks, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Nanjing University and 803 enterprises and companies also participated in the event, demonstrating their scientific results and seeking opportunities for co-operation with other APEC members in various areas.

One of the features was the speeches at science and technology forums by top scientists, financial officials, CEOs and experts on such topics as the Development of China's Private Science-tech Enterprises, Co-operation among APEC Industrial Parks, Biotechnology and Traditional Chinese Medicine in the 21st Century, Modern Material Manufacturing Technology and Development, and Prospects of China's Telecommunications Industry.

Exhibited at the fair were 400 scientific achievements and products in the fields of biochemistry, environmental protection technology, energy and resources management technology, and microelectronics and telecommunications technology.

All the participants pledged to further co-operation and communication so as to contribute to the development of global and local economies.
