Taiwan Investment to Be Encouraged after China's WTO Entry

China will continue to encourage Taiwan investment in the mainland and protect Taiwan investors' interests after the two sides of the Taiwan Straits enter the World Trade Organization (WTO), a spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said Wednesday.

The Taiwan authorities have been called upon to lift their limitations on investment by Taiwan business people in the Chinese mainland as soon as possible, because only then will the latter be able to grasp the opportunity of sharing in cross-Straits prosperity, spokesman Zhang Mingqing told a press conference.

The WTO entry of the two sides will boost trade across the Straits, and facilitate the realization of the three direct links, namely in business, transportation and mail, Zhang said.
