Shanxi Launches Ecological Protection Project along Yellow River
September 25 saw north China's Shanxi Province formally launched the ecological protection project along upper and middle reaches of the Yellow River. This project is to be jointly implemented by 72 counties, six provincial forestry units, and 149 state-owned forestry centers in Shanxi Province. With a total investment of RMB 1.702 bn yuan from central and local governments, the project is to cover an area of 138.77 million mu during the scheduled time of 11 years. That is to increase green vegetation area to 46.99 million mu, forestry accumulation volume to 80.05 million cubic meters, and forestry coverage to 35.1 percent, thus completely improving the ecological environment of the Yellow River reaches in Shanxi Province.
