Interpol Calls for Cooperation in Fight Against TerrorismThe 75th Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) urged Tuesday all member nations to increase cooperation in the battle against terrorism.Interpol said in a statement that all member nations should work together to fight against terrorism through exchanging information and sharing the database and all services supplied by Interpol. It reminded member nations to keep a close eye on banks suspected of being involved in money laundering and other terrorist activities. The statement condemned the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11, saying the attacks are a crime against human being and have a negative impact on many member states. In order to prevent the tragedy from happening again, the statement called on all member nations to increase the safety on their flights by beefing up security measures at airport. The statement, passed unanimously by all 135 member states, marks a new stage of Interpol, from which Interpol will become a key institute and coordinator in international fight against terrorism, vice chairman of Interpol-Europe John Abott said at a press conference. Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble said that Interpol was committed to reorganizing in order to change "from a 9:00 am to 5: 00 pm, five days a week international organization to a 24-hour, seven days a week" police organization. The week-long assembly, which opened Monday, will also discuss issues such as organized crimes, drug and human trafficking.
