Bush's Postponing Asian Visit Understandable, Spokesman
China understands US President George W. Bush's postponing his scheduled visit to the three Asian countries of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea because of the current situation, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said Wednesday.
Spokesman Zhu Bangzao made the remark when asked to comment on reports that President Bush has decided to put off his visit to the three Asian countries.
Zhu said that the US side notified the Chinese side of this decision Tuesday night.
The two sides have agreed through consultation that Chinese President Jiang Zemin and President Bush will meet in Shanghai, added Zhu.
Bush Modifies Itinerary of Asia Trip US President George W. Bush will attend the informal leadership meeting of the Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum scheduled to be held in China's Shanghai on October 20-21 but has canceled other stops of his first Asia trip, the White House said Tuesday.
"President Bush has modified his planned travel to Asia in October," White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said in a statement.
Without giving an explanation, Fleischer said Bush postponed his scheduled stops at Tokyo, Seoul and Beijing.
