Colombia's Guerrilla Leaders Escape from Jail
Two leaders of the 4,500- strong guerrilla group, the National Liberation Army (ELN), escaped from the Barranquilla Modelo Jail, north of Colombia, authorities said on Monday.
Intelligence organizations were kept alert to re-capture the escapees, Jesus de los Reyes and Angel Lopez, whose whereabouts are not known yet, the same sources told local radio.
According to authorities, De los Reyes and Lopez were allegedly involved in the hijacking of a flight of Colombian flag carrier Avianca and a mass kidnapping in the area El Torno last year.
ELN is the Andean country's second largest rebel organization, ranking after the 16,500-strong Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
