Intl. Writing Brush Festival Opens in East China

An international cultural festival with the theme of traditional Chinese writing brushes opened Tuesday in Huzhou City, in East China's Zhejiang Province.

As one of the four treasures of the study (writing brush, ink stick, ink slab and paper), the writing brush has always played an important role in Chinese painting and writing.

The Hu Brush, one of the prestigious writing brush types, is produced in Huzhou City.

Many Chinese and overseas painters and calligraphers have created outstanding art works using Hu brushes.

At present, the city still has nearly 300 enterprises producing special writing brushes. The annual production volume is said to be 50 million brushes, of which 70 percent are exported to a dozen countries and regions in Asia and Europe.
