Egyptian President: Mideast Peace Process Necessary to Fight Terrorism

German Chancellor Talks with Mubarak
Visiting Egyptian President Husni Mubarak and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder on Tuesday called for "urgent" progress in the Middle East peace process.

Mubarak appealed the United States and Europe to make more efforts for the peace process in the region.

Without a solution to the Middle East conflicts there will not be stability in the world, stressed the Egyptian leader. The unresolved Middle East conflict was "fertile soil" of terrorism, according to Mubarak.

Schroeder also pointed out that the improvement of the Middle East peace process a "key" in fighting international terrorism.

He called on the Palestinians and Israelis to help realize a meeting of the Israeli Foreign Minister Simon Peres and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

Egypt is a "key nation" in the worldwide coalition against the terrorism, said Schroeder.

The German leader reiterated that the fight against terrorism was not a fight against a religion.

Mubarak is on a Europe visit which will also take him to Italy on Tuesday. He visited France a day earlier.
