Pakistan Against Interference in Afghan Affairs: FMPakistan is against foreign interference in Afghanistan's internal affairs, said Pakistani Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar in a press conference Tuesday. He warned foreign powers not to try to install a puppet regime in that country, saying, "We ourselves learnt a lesson from history, and we did not in the past and not in future will commit this blunder." Satar expressed concern over the report that some Afghan groups in the Northern Alliance were asking for foreign military assistance. "We fear any such decision on the part of foreign powers to give assistance to one group or the other is a recipe for great suffering for the people of Afghanistan," said Satar. Sattar said because of the current difficult situation, Pakistan has withdrawn almost all of its staff from Afghanistan but maintains contact with the Taliban authorities through their embassy in Islamabad. He quoted President Pervez Musharraf as saying that Pakistan being the only country in contact with the Taliban authorities, " may serve the role of communication between the world community and Afghanistan." |
