Beijing Policemen to Get New ID Cards

The capital's policemen will have their ID cards renewed on October 1.

According to a spokesman of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau Tuesday, the new ID cards will not be so easy to lose or counterfeit.

Besides the regular information like name, sex and blood type, and a photo of the policeman, the original copy also bears an official seal and a mark which can help assure the card's authenticity.

There is also a duplicate copy which has a bar code recording the date of issue and period of validity. It can be updated easily.

The new cards will be renewed every other year.

The cards in use now by over 40,000 policemen in Beijing were issued in 1995, and will be void as of the issuance of the new version.
