Foreign Artists Stage Performances for Chinese Workers

More than 100 foreign artists Tuesday staged performances for over 1,000 Chinese workers of the Capital Iron and Steel Company (CISC).

At the factory area of the CISC, one of China's major steel producers, located in the western suburbs of Beijing, workers gathered to watch colorful song and dance performances by folk artists from seven countries, including France, Finland, Belgium and Malaysia.

The foreign artists were impressed by the clean environment, fresh air and blooming flowers at the premises of the company, which used to be one of the city's major polluters.

According to a CISC official, the company has invested a total of 906 million yuan to carry out 189 environmental improvement projects over the past five years.

In the next five years, the funds earmarked for this purpose will reach 1.25 billion yuan.
