Renovation of Zhongshan Warship CompletedSeptember 22 saw the famous Zhongshan Warship passing the renovation approval at the Hubei Shipyard in central China's Hubei Province. Experts say the warship has been restored to its original shape and is now well protected from being eroded. The renovated warship will serve as a floating museum for patriotic education.The Warship, originally named "Yongfeng", was later renamed after Dr. Sun Yat-sen in 1925, the great forerunner of the Chinese Democratic Revolution. In its service time the warship had undergone a series of historic events in the revolution, such as the Zhongshan Warship Incident and the battle in defense of Wuhan, etc. It was bombed sunk in the Yangtze River by Japanese invaders on October 24,1938 during China's War of Resistance Against Japan (1937-1945). In 1996, the 130th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen's birthday, a project was kicked off to hoist it out of water with its renovation work started on November 12, 1999 and brought to completion last July.
