Macao's Exports Down in January-July

Macao's exports fell 9.8 percent year on year to 10.37 billion patacas (US$1.3 billion) in the first seven months of this year, according to the latest official statistics.

Figures released Tuesday by the Statistics and Census Services also show the special administrative region (SAR) imported 11.27 billion patacas (US$1.41 billion) worth of goods from January to July, up 11.8 percent.

The United States and the European Union (EU) were still the major markets for Macao. The exports to the U.S. made up 45.5 percent of Macao's total, though the figure dropped 12.1 percent on a yearly basis. The E.U. countries received 28.4 percent of the SAR's exports.

Textile products and garments made up more than 80 percent of Macao's exports.

Macao's imports include capital goods, consumption goods, fuel and lubricating oil. Those from China's inland and Hong Kong took up more than half of the total, statistics show.
