US President Calls Thai PM

US President George W. Bush made a call to Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to thank Thailand's support for the US, the Channel 7 reported Tuesday.

"We have been friends since we studied together in Texas, so he (President Bush) called just to thank for our condolences and Thailand's position against terrorism," Thaksin said to reporters.

Thaksin did not revealed if Bush had requested the use of a Thai military base.

Meanwhile, Surakiart Sathirathai, Thai Foreign Minister said any decision allowing or forbidding the U.S to use Thai military base is an issue of sovereignty, so Thailand would not have to consult other members of the Association of South East Asian Nations.
