Beijing Park to Boost Bio-technology

China opened a life sciences park, a center for nurturing bio-technology and the new medicine industry, in Beijing's "Silicon Valley", Zhongguancun.

Covering an area of 254 hectares, the park provides companies with such technological back-up as bio-info technology and data center, bio-info computing center and standard experimental facilities.

The park hopes to attract bio-technology research and development institutes and enterprises, as well as agencies in the fields of finance, venture capital and law.

The Zhongguancun Hi-tech Park's deputy director, Ren Ranqi, said that the life sciences park is strategically important in that bio-technology will be a core science of the 21st century.

Ten companies, including Qinghua Bo'ao, a bio-chip producer, have already moved into the park.
