China's First Art Gallery on Giant Pandas

An art gallery on giant pandas has been opened to visitors in Fuzhou, capital of east China's Fujian Province.

It is the first of its kind in China. Situated inside the " World of Giant Pandas" in Fuzhou, the gallery holds several thousands works of art related to giant pandas, one of the rarest animals listed under state top protection in China, ranging from paintings, stamps, sculptures to photos.

Chen Yulin, initiator of the gallery and also head of the Fuzhou Giant Panda Research Center, explained that the specialized establishment was designed to enhance people's awareness of environmental protection and for them to show their care for the survival of all endangered animals, including giant pandas, by appreciating the artistic images of the giant pandas at the gallery.

According to Chen, all the works exhibited at the gallery were donated.

There are about 1,000 giant pandas in the wild, most of them living in the mountains of west China.
