Saudi Arabia Cuts Diplomatic Ties with Taliban

Saudi Arabia cut diplomatic ties with Afghanistan's Taliban Regime Tuesday, leaving Pakistan as the only country to maintain diplomatic relations with it.

The Saudi government announced the decision in a statement, three days after the United Arab Emirates, under the mounting pressure from the United States, severed its ties with the Taliban.

Pakistan officials, while promising full cooperation with the United States in an anti-terror compaign, have said that their country prefers to keep the Taliban's diplomatic mission in Pakistan as a "window."

Saudi Arabia's decision came as the U.S. is stepping up its pre- strike preparations politically, economically and militarily.
