Straw Arrives in Tehran as Top British Diplomat to Visit Iran
British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw arrived in the Iranian capital, Tehran, early Tuesday as the top British diplomat to visit the Islamic republic since 1979, according to the official IRNA news agency.
Britain appreciates Iran's quick response against the September 11 terror attacks on New York and Washington and is expected to seek further support from Iran in a global fight against terrorism.
Straw had just ended his day-long visit to Jordan, where he met with Jordan's King Abdullah II and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat separately on the Mideast peace process and international efforts to combat terrorism.
His Middle East tour will also take him to Israel, the self-rule areas of the Palestinians and Egypt.
