Int'l Forum on Fireworks Security, Quality Technology Scheduled

The first international forum on security and quality control technology of fireworks will be convened in Liuyang City, central China's Hunan Province, from October 20-22.

Chinese officials from relevant government departments including the Ministry of Public Security and State Administration of Quality Supervision and Quarantine, officials of the United Nations, as well as well-known fireworks makers, related artists and specialists from China and foreign countries such as the United States, Britain and Japan will attend the forum, according to Li Keming, Mayor of Liuyang, a city known for producing quality fireworks.

Mayor Li said that the participants would discuss fireworks development trends, probe new ways for standardizing production of fireworks, exchange technology and information about fireworks, and are expected to reach a consensus toward the exchange of and cooperation in technology for the production of fireworks.

A proclamation will also be signed at the forum in preparation of the establishment of an international fireworks organization to promote standardization of technology and materials used for production of fireworks and advance development of the world's fireworks industry.

Liuyang City's fireworks sector generated 1.59 billion yuan (about 192 million U.S. dollars) in output value and chalked up 1.56 billion yuan (about 188 million U.S. dollars) in sales last year.

The city also accounts for half of China's exports of fireworks. In July this year, the city went public with its fireworks sector and raised more than 200 million yuan (about 24.1 million U.S. dollars) from the bourse, which will act as a catalyzer for the development future of the city's fireworks sector, said Mayor Li.
