Yangtze River Three Gorges International Tourism Festival Opens

The Second Yangtze River Three Gorges International Tourism Festival opened Sunday in Yichang, this city at the middle reaches of the Yangtze.

The Three Gorges, a joint name for the Qutang Gorge, the Wu Gorge and the Xiling Gorge along the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, are famous for their precipice landscape.

Yichang is the east end of the Three Gorges and the site of many big hydropower stations, including the world's biggest water control project -- the Three Gorges Dam Project on the middle reaches of the Yangtze River.

A total of 19 tourism activities, including tours of the Three Gorges and of the construction sites of Gezhouba and the Three Gorges water control projects, will be held during the festival.

The festival, which is jointly hosted by the China National Tourism Administration and the Hubei Provincial People's Government, aims to highlight Yichang's splendid ancient cultural and archeological legacies, as well as its advanced modern water conservancy achievements to the visitors.
