Nine Missing, Three Dead After Road Accident

A road accident has left three people dead, nine missing and six injured Sunday afternoon in Sichuan Province, southwest China.

A van carrying 18 people, including 16 tourists from Hong Kong, was driving on a highway from Chengdu, the provincial capital, to Jiuzhaigou, a famous scenic spot, when it lurched into a river after a head-on collision with a Santana car at 1:20 p.m.

Emergency efforts are being taken to treat the six injured, consisting of four Hong Kong tourists, a driver and a tour guide, said sources from the provincial government.

Meanwhile, search-and-rescue efforts are underway for the nine tourists still missing.
