Iranian Parliament Rejects US Unilateral Move on Terrorism

Iran's majlis' (parliament) Foreign Affairs Commission on Sunday rejected US unilateral move to fight terrorism, saying that its drive must be performed in cooperation with the international organizations.

The rejection was announced by Elaheh Koulaei, rapporteur of the commission, after members of the commission discussed developments in Afghanistan in the light of a possible U.S. military strikes against Afghanistan in retaliation for the September 11 attacks, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Koulaei said that any move to fight terrorism must be carried out within the framework of international conventions, cautioning that a humanitarian catastrophe must not be answered with a similar catastrophe.

"Iran, as a country that strongly rejects any attempt to disturb international order, advocates respecting the rights of all nations and peoples around the globe when fighting such attempts," she stressed.

Three hijacked planes slammed into the Pentagon in Washington and New York's World Trade Center on September 11, killing thousands of people.

The U.S. has termed as "prime suspect" of the terror attacks Saudi-born billionaire Osama bin Laden, who is in exile in Afghanistan, vowing that it wants to bring bin Laden to justice " dead or alive."

Iran, which had no diplomatic relations with the United States for the past 21 years, condemned the terrorist attacks, but warned against any U.S. reprisals targeting neighboring Afghanistan.
