Over 10,000 Enjoy Free Volkswagen Piano Lessons

In the summer vacation, over 10,000 people attended free piano lessons sponsored by the Volkswagen (VW) Sound Foundation.

"The event, aimed at popularizing musical culture, is the first of its kind ever held in China," according to Michael Wilkes, senior manager of marketing and public relations with VW.

He said that, with the initiation of the Sound Foundation, VW will introduce the world's top musicians and troupes to China as well as sponsor their concerts and other musical events, to enrich the life of Chinese people with different types of music, and to support young talented musicians and troupes in China.

During the past week, Chinese piano fans, students and children have enjoyed a series of seven concerts performed by famous pianists from the United States, Germany, Australia, Great Britain and Sweden. Not only did adult audiences enjoy music of different styles, but children who have just begun to learn the piano also had an opportunity to attend classes given by these world-famous pianists.

The free admission tickets to all seven concerts were booked up in one day.

The Volkswagen Sound Foundation, a non-profit organization, was initiated by Volkswagen in Germany in 1997. It has become one of the biggest sponsors for world's top musicians and musical troupes.

In China, Volkswagen has sponsored the Beijing Music Festival, Beijing International Jazz Festival, Heineken Beat Music Festival and similar events.

"As an enthusiastic supporter of Chinese music, Volkswagen will continue its efforts to enhance global musical exchanges in China, " Wilkes added.
