Macao Chief Executive on Election of Legislative Assembly
The election of the 2nd Legislative Assembly of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) is of great significance as the first political election since Macao returned to the motherland at the end of 1999, Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah told the press Sunday.
The chief executive, who cast his vote this morning, called on all voters to cast their votes actively to perform their sacred duties.
He also thanked people from various circles for their support for the election work.
A massive voting was kicked off Sunday morning to generate the new legislative assembly of the Macao SAR, which shall be composed of 27 seats including ten from direct election, ten from indirect election and seven appointed by the SAR's chief executive.
The turnout has reached nearly 160,000, or about one third of the SAR's population.
Other leading officials from the SAR government also participated in the voting, which will end at 8:00 p.m.
