No Suspected Terrorists Detained: HK Police

Hong Kong police said on Saturday that no suspected terrorists have been arrested and detained by the police so far.

The statement was made by a police spokesman in response to a newspaper report which alleged that the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau in conjunction with the Special Duty Unit had been detaining a number of targeted people, most of whom were coming from the Middle East and Pakistan, following a series of raids in the territory.

"The report is totally unfounded and irresponsible. We regret that the newspaper did not seek police confirmation before publishing the article," the spokesman said, adding, "It would only cause unnecessary panic to members of the public."

He said that the Hong Kong Police are well trained and have sufficient resources to deal with any emergency.

Spokesman Dismisses Reports on Terrorist Attacks in HK

A spokesman for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government said Monday there was no substance in speculative reports that Hong Kong had become the target of terrorist attacks and there was no cause for panic.

Some local media reports said earlier that there was a possibility that once the United States launches a war against countries which harbor terrorist groups, terrorists hiding in the Macao Special Administrative Region will launch retaliative attacks against the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong.
