Second-seeded Schuettler Meets Kratochvil in Shanghai Open Final

Second seed Rainer Schuettler of Germany Saturday overcame shoulder injury to reach the final of Shanghai Open tennis tournament with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 win over fourth-seeded Spaniard Francisco Clavet.

Schuettler, who was bothered by a sore shoulder halfway through his semifinal, received treatment from a trainer following the second set, then broke Clavet early in the third to take a 3-2 lead and never relinquished it.

The German, advancing to his first final in more than a year, will next take on Swiss third seed Michel Kratochvil who defeated unseeded Kenneth Carlsen of Denmark in the other semifinal, 6-2 6- 4.

Kratochvil, 22, will be playing in his first career final when he meets Schuettler on Sunday.
