Vice Premier Meets European Chinese Business Delegation

Vice Premier Qian Qichen met in Beijing on September 21 with a European Chinese business delegation headed by Chu Chien-Jen.

During their meeting, the vice premier spoke highly of overseas Chinese and foreigners of Chinese origin for their concern over China's development, the cross-straits ties and the reunification cause.

They have contributed both to the economic and cultural development in the countries they are living in as well as the relations between these countries and China, Qian said.

Regarding the issue of reunification, Qian reiterated China's principle of "One Country, Two Systems" and stressed that the Taiwan authorities must accept the One-China Principle. He expressed his hope that overseas Chinese and foreigners of Chinese origin actively participate in China's development and contribute to the eventual reunification of the country.

Present at the meeting was Chen Yunlin, director of the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office.

The members of the delegation are leaders of overseas Chinese associations in different European nations.
