APEC Technology Exhibition, Trade Fair Opens in Suzhou
About 1,000 enterprises, research institutes and hi-tech parks from different APEC economies came to display new technology and products, carry out trade talks and discuss future development of science and technology in the Asia-Pacific region.
APEC has been playing an active role in promoting economic and technological cooperation among the member economies in order to push forward free and convenient trade in the region since it was established, China's Minister of Science and Technology Xu Guanhua said at the opening ceremony.
The Chinese government is implementing a key policy to enhance its comprehensive national strength through developing high and new technology, while upgrading traditional industries with hi- tech measures, according to Xu.
Technological areas covered by the five-day event include microelectronics, information technology and telecommunications, machine-electronics integration and advanced manufacturing technology, modern material technology, medicine and biotechnology, sustainable agriculture technology, processing of agricultural products, environmental protection, and pollution-free manufacturing technology.
High-ranking officials, scientists, entrepreneurs and financiers have been invited to several symposiums on international finance and high technology, the information technology industry in the Asia-Pacific region, biotechnology and traditional Chinese medicine, construction of industrial parks, and material technology in the 21st century.
Special presentations will be held to attract overseas investment into China's central and western areas, where massive projects will be launched to spur economic and social development following the central government's decision to further develop these vast, underdeveloped regions.
