Promising Future for China-Thailand Farm Produce TradingGovernment officials and people from industrial and commercial circles of China and Thailand gathered here Thursday to discuss the status and future outlook on farm produce trading between the two countries.Foreign trade and economic relations between the two sides have developed smoothly in recent years. The exports of Thailand's farm produce to China stands at about 600 million U.S. dollars annually, according to China's Vice-Minister of Agriculture Liu Jian. Bilateral trade and economic exchanges can be dated back 2,000 years. China mainly imports rice, rubber and tropical fruits from Thailand, and exports fruits grown in temperate zones such as apples and pears, leather products, cotton clothing and chemicals for agricultural use. As two developing countries, both China and Thailand attach great importance to the development of agriculture. Last year, Thailand witnessed a trade surplus of 340.3 billion Thai bahts (7.7 billion U.S. dollars) from exports of farm produce. |
