Dock for Ore Transportation in North ChinaA dock for ore transportation will be constructed in the Jingtang port of Tangshan, a city some 240 kilometers away from Beijing, to aid the steel industry in north China. All the preparations have been completed and the dock will be capable of handling 200,000-ton vessels, said governmental officials. As a pillar of the economy in north China, the steel industry in this region contributes 27 percent of national total steel output. However, the transportation fees are high and the industry is burdened by a lack of iron ore supplies. After completion, the dock will be a direct link to an international producing area of iron ore and thus greatly cut the transportation costs, said the officials. |
