China to Work With World to Combat Terrorism

The Chinese government will strengthen the cooperation with the US and other countries in combating international terrorism, in line with UN charters and international rules, said He Yafei, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, at a press conference held in Washington on September 18.

He showed his deep shock and angry to the "terrorist" attacks in the United States and once again expressed heartfelt condolences to the family members of the victims, on behalf of the Chinese government and people. The two countries have the common view of denouncing and opposing any kind of terrorist acts and keep close consultation and cooperation in the fight against terrorism, he said.

The international terrorism is a shared threat to the peace and security of all countries besides China. The Chinese government, he said, always condemns and opposes all terrorist violence as well as actively participates in and support anti-terrorism efforts.

The international terrorism is now a global issue that should be addressed worldwide. So all countries are urged to strengthen the cooperation in cracking down on international terrorism. The United Nations and the Security Council should play their due roles in this respect. In addition, the anti-terrorism efforts should be done in line with UN charters and international rules, with conclusive evidence and fixed goal, trying to avoid injuring innocent civilians, thus favoring long-term benefits of the international community.

China has never established any kind of formal relationship with Taliban in Afghanistan, He said. The spokesman stressed that China, a neighbor of Afghanistan, has been always concerned with development of situations in Afghanistan. China supports the United Nations' leading role in peaceful settlement of the Afghan issue and hopes that the issue of Afghanistan would be solved peacefully and as soon as possible.
