Tung Meets With International Business Committee

Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa met with the International Business Committee (IBC) Thursday to listen to their views on matters relating to the business environment in Hong Kong, a government release said.

Answering questions about Hong Kong's latest plans for enhancing economic cooperation with the Pearl River Delta, Tung said, "The Hong Kong-Guangdong Joint Cooperation Conference met recently. One of the measures being pursued vigorously is how the procedures and infrastructure for facilitating passengers and cargo crossing the border can be improved."

Members of the International Business Committee proposed that Hong Kong government continue measures to improve the environment and strengthen efforts in promoting e-business and the IT environment.

Tung said that the government was fully committed to moving in this direction and that the "Digital 21 - Information Technology Strategy" was being pursued and implemented.

IBC is composed of representatives from various Chambers of Commerce and Business Associations of overseas communities in Hong Kong.
