Beijing to Host National Acrobatics Festival

The first national acrobatics festival has been slated for October 17-26 in the national capital, sources said.

More than 20 acrobatics troupes from across the country will attend the 10-day event, which will feature seven performances.

Many of the scheduled programs have won golden medals at international competitions.

Sources said that the festival has established a Golden Chrysanthemum Award and prizes for best actors and actresses, directors and dancing.

Ying Ying, a 17-year-old giant panda and a professional performer, will be present at the event. Ying Ying, from the Wuhan Acrobatics Troupe, is now the only giant panda that performs in China.

Celebrations marking the 20th founding anniversary of the China Acrobats' Association and a symposium on the development of acrobatics in the 21st century will be held during the festival.

The event will be jointly sponsored by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Beijing Municipal Government and the China Acrobats' Association.
