Fairchild Dornier Seeks Enhanced Cooperation With ChinaFairchild Dornier, a leading jet aircraft manufacturer, says it wants to become involve more Chinese aircraft manufacturers in its regional jet projects through production of components."China is the fastest growing commercial aviation market in the world," said Barry Eccleston, Fairchild Dornier's executive vice president for business development. "We're committed to the Chinese market, particularly the regional jet business," Eccleston told a press briefing Thursday, during the ongoing 2001 China International Aviation Exposition. Fairchild Dornier roused world attention last November with a letter of intent signed with the Hainan Airlines Group and the two Chinese aviation industry conglomerates, AVIC I and AVIC II, on the joint development and production of 32-seat jets. "We sincerely hope we can develop a strong partnership with the Chinese industries, based on trust, friendship and mutual benefit, " Eccleston said. Fairchild Dornier has delivered over 70 of its 328JET, the world's only 32-seat regional jet, to airlines worldwide, including China's Hainan Airlines, based in the southernmost Hainan Province. In another development, the U.S.-German joint venture has launched 728JET, a new family of airliners designed for the 55-to- 110-seat market, whose flight trial is scheduled for early next year. Sources from China's aviation industry have predicted that China will need another 1,690 passenger planes for civil use in the next two decades, some 571 of which will be regional planes with less than 100 seats.
