Premier, Vice President Meet Model Officials
Premier Zhu Rongji and Vice-President Hu Jintao met Thursday a group of government officials and representatives of government departments that were rewarded for their meritorious work.
Both Zhu and Hu are members of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau.
During the meeting, the premier said that in general, China's public servants are good, with the majority of them being hard working and satisfactory for the people.
However, there are a small number of government officials who are not qualified and have even violated laws, Zhu noted.
He urged all government officials to follow President Jiang Zemin's important instructions on Party building, namely the " Three Represent's" theory, and keep in mind. "We are representing the fundamental interests of the majority of the people."
Forty-six officials were rewarded as "People's Satisfactory Public Servants," while 31 units were given the title "People's Satisfactory Public Servant Groups."
The election of model officials and units was jointly organized by four central departments.
