King Sihanouk Speaks Highly of Sino-Cambodian Friendship

King Norodom Sihanouk Thursday morning met the visiting delegation of China's Ministry of Health at the Royal Palace, appreciating the traditional friendship between Cambodia and China.

The king said that China has assisted Cambodia in overcoming difficulties in its various historical periods, and now also offered support and assistance which is playing an important role in Cambodia's economic rehabilitation, as well as in maintaining independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

Zhang Wenkang, Chinese minister of health, said that King Sihanouk is the most honest friend of the Chinese people and has been promoting the development of the friendly relationship between the two countries. He stressed that the Chinese people would keep this in their minds for ever.

The Chinese minister briefed the king about his talks with Cambodian Minister of Health Hong Sunhuot on the cooperation between the two ministries of health, which have reached consensus on cooperation in the research and development of herbal medicine, prevention and treatment of malaria, and training medical personnel.

Sihanouk thanked the Chinese government for its help to his country's Ministry of Health, and also thanked the government and the people of China for their 100 percent efforts to treat his disease.

Cambodian PM Meets Chinese Delegation

Hun Sen met with the visiting Chinese delegation of the Ministry of Health Thursday at his residence.

The Cambodian premier appreciated that the leaders of the old generations of the two nations have set up friendly relationship between the two countries, and now the leaders of the two countries are continuing to strengthen the relationship.

Zhang Wenkang, China's minister of health, said that in recent years, the leaders of the two nations have further developed the friendly relationship and cooperation between China and Cambodia through frequent mutual contacts and visits, noting that under the leadership of King Norodom Sihanouk, the Royal government has made

achievements in the political stability and economic rehabilitation, and Cambodia has entered into a new period of social development.

Hun Sen said that Cambodia and China has an age-old history of friendly relationship, and their cooperation is very important to them as nations along the Mekong river.

The Chinese minister told Hun Sen that the Ministry of Health of China is eager to cooperate with the Ministry of Health of Cambodia, and both sides have reached consensus on cooperative research and development of herbal medicines, prevention and treatment of malaria, and training medical personnel.

Zhang Wenkang had talks with his Cambodian counterpart Thursday morning at the building of the Ministry of Health, and after the talks, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Eliminating AIDS for Mobile Population in the Mekong Sub-region.

The Chinese delegation arrived in Phnom Penh on Tuesday evening for a 5-day visit to the country.
