China to Make Four Commitments for Joining WTO

China has made 4 commitments for joining the WTO, that is to cut tariff, reduce and remove non-tariff barrier, commitment on agriculture and open up the service industry.

China promises to cut the average tariff from the present 15 percent to 10 percent by 2005. Lowering tariff is a need for China's reform and opening up, and it is also a trend for merging into the globalization.

With regard to reducing and removing non-tariff barrier, namely on import quota and license, China will revoke all the 400 kinds of import quotas by 2005, because all the WTO members will rescind import quota license by that time.

In agriculture, in according with the agricultural agreement reached between China and the US, China commits to revoke the ban on TCK wheat exports from American seven states and lift control on American 6,000 meat-processing factories' exports to China.

In service industry, China promises to open by and by bank, insurance, tourism and Telecom services.
