Use of FDI Exceeded US$27bn in First Eight Months

China's actual use of foreign direct investment (FDI) reached US$27.4bn in the first eight months of this year, up over 20 percent from the corresponding period of last year, and the country's actual use of FDI in 2001 is estimated to reach US$46bn, up more than 10 percent over the previous corresponding period, according to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC).

Latest statistics showed that China approved a total of 16,344 overseas-invested companies from January to August this year, up 18.6 percent over the previous corresponding period, while the contractual foreign investment registered a hefty 31.6 percent rise to US$43.748 billion.

Up to now, the total number of overseas-funded companies in the country has reached 380, 000, involving a contractual overseas investment of US$720.4bn and paid-in FDI of US$376bn respectively. And 180,000 overseas-invested companies have gone into production, with some 21 million employees, accounting for nearly 10 percent of all labors in China��s cities and towns.
