Guangdong to Build Complete Transport System

Southern China's Guangdong Province will spend over 200 billion yuan (about 24 billion U.S. dollars) in the 2001-2005 period to establish a complete transportation system focusing on railways.

An official from the provincial government said that an expressway network with Guangzhou, capital of the province, as its hub will be built. The government will invest about 94 billion yuan (about 11.3 billion U.S.dollars) in building 5,394 kilometers of highways.

Guangdong will also invest 19 billion yuan (about 2.29 billion U.S.dollars) to build 312 km of railways, 27 billion yuan (about 3. 25 billion U.S.dollars) in port construction, and 18.9 billion yuan in airports (about 2.28 billion U.S.dollars) to establish a civil air transportation system with Guangzhou Baiyun Airport as its hub.

The provincial government plans to deepen transportation management system reform, and to establish a complete transportation market.
