Beijing to Offer 370 Projects to Hong Kong Investors

Beijing will promote 370 projects for investment from Hong Kong at an economic cooperation meeting scheduled for October 23 and 24 in the capital city.

Tang Long, spokesman for the Beijing Municipal government, said the projects will cost 13.9 billion U.S. dollars, involving infrastructure, service industry, modern agriculture development programs, high-tech projects, technological upgrading of industrial firms, housing renovation projects and real estate development.

The meeting, the fifth of its kind, will be sponsored by trade and investment departments of the Beijing municipal government and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government.

Representatives of foreign embassies in Beijing and some foreign trading firms are expected to participate in the meeting, said the spokesman.

Over 214 deals have been sealed during the past four meetings over the past four years, absorbing 10.05 billion U.S. dollars of investment.

Hong Kong investors have so far set up 6,210 enterprises in Beijing, accounting for 37 percent of the total number of overseas- funded firms in the capital.

Contracted investment from Hong Kong totaled 15.6 billion U.S. dollars, about 46 percent of the total overseas investment Beijing has secured.
