Taliban Deny Reports of Holy War Against US

Afghanistan's Taliban on Tuesday flatly denied reports that it had announced a holy war against the United States.

But a senior Taliban official told AFP: "If there is an invasion of an Islamic country, there will be jihad (holy war) against the invaders."

According to the Taliban's Voice of Shariat radio monitored by the BBC, the Taliban have announced a holy war against United States. The radio quoted the deputy chairman of the Taliban Council of Ministers, Mullah Mohammad Hasan, as saying Monday that "Our jihad war will be formally resuming against the Americans."
