EU Hails Agreement on China's Accession to WTOThe European Union (EU) Monday welcomed the protocol signed in Geneva on China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) after 15 years of negotiations, claiming that the agreement would facilitate EU's investment and trade in China.The accord on China's entry into WTO was approved by the formal meeting of the 18th WTO Working Party on China's accession on September 17 in Geneva, clearing the way for Beijing to join the world trading body within months time. The fourth WTO ministerial meeting, scheduled for Doha of Qatar in November, will vote on China's WTO membership. Pascal Lamy, European Commissioner for Trade said in a statement that he was satisfactory to see the result after 15 years' arduous endeavor and China's participation would make WTO a real world organization. The trade commissioner stressed that the aim to obtain WTO membership is to make countries join hands peacefully in this multilateral system via trade relations, "dialogue and negotiation between states or regional bodies to share the benefits of common legal rules and regulations are of vital importance". At this crucial moment, the important job we've finished here today has helped to bring to this system and all of us a dire need of confidence and hope for the future, he said.
