Hasty US Reactions Solve No Problem: Iranian FMIranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi, while reiterating his country condemnation against terrorism, expressed concern on Sunday that "hasty reactions could solve no problem.""Islam is opposed to terror and all Islamic countries have condemned the terrorist attacks against the United States," Kharazi was quoted by IRNA news agency as saying. Meanwhile, the minister stressed terrorism "should be dealt with fundamentally and under international efforts as well as cooperation." Kharazi was making the remarks in a telephone conversation with his British counterpart Jack Straw, according to IRNA. The U.S. has singled out Osama bin Laden, an exiled Saudi billionaire in Afghanistan, as the prime suspect of the terror attacks in New York and Washington. The U.S., which accuses the Afghan Taliban regime of sheltering bin Laden, has vowed to root out his group and attack countries or organizations that support him. Kharazi also lashed out at Israel for escalating its strikes against the Palestinians, saying "this is a blatant manifestation of international terrorism." For his part, the British foreign secretary gave an upbeat assessment of the "sharp and swift" stance adopted by Iran against the terrorist attacks on the U.S. He reasserted: "We are committed to reinforce our fight against terrorism by using all levers at disposal within the framework of international conventions." Over the past few days, Iranian leaders from reformists to conservatives have strongly condemned the attacks in an unprecedented show of sympathy for the United States after two decades of animosity. |
