Iran Calls for International Cooperation in Fighting TerrorismIranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi on Monday called for international cooperation in fighting terrorism.A campaign against terrorism will "produce fruitful results" for the international community through joint efforts and cooperation, Kharazi said during a telephone conversation with U.N. chief Kofi Annan on the recent terror attacks against the U.S., according to the Islamic Republic News Agency. Two hijacked passenger planes crashed into the World Trade Center (WTC) in New York and the Pentagon in Washington last Tuesday, causing the collapse of WTC's twin towers and part of the Pentagon. More than 5,000 people are missing and feared dead in the tragedy. Kharazi expressed concern about possible "hasty reactions" after the terror attacks, saying that the influx of Afghan people to the neighboring states has intensified and immediate measures must be taken to cope with the situation. Referring to wide-scale propaganda campaign against the Muslims in various parts of the world, hen that "Islam is strongly against terrorism and one should not attribute such attacks to Islam and Muslims." Iran has also expressed strong concern about the escalation of Israeli attacks and aggressions against the Palestinians, he added. Annan appreciated Iran's stances and castigated anti-Islam and anti-Muslims propaganda. International cooperation is the only way to fight the destructive phenomenon of terrorism, he stressed.
